“ΜΑΖi” was a participatory cultural action organised within the framework of Larnaka 2030, bringing people together around a shared table as a space of encounter, exchange, and celebration.
The action took place in Kamares, at a pedestrian pathway temporarily reclaimed as a public gathering space. Through participatory activities, performances, and food, the pathway was transformed into a welcoming setting that invited different communities to meet, interact, and share everyday practices.
Around a collective table, participants prepared and shared Skaliotika kaloiarka, Syrian food, took part in a workshop on Syrian mahalepi, enjoyed Cypriot mahalepi and popcorn, and contributed dishes they had brought themselves. The gathering was accompanied by dancing to the sounds of daouli, zourna, and pithkiavli, alongside moments of drawing, sewing, listening to stories, and sharing music.
“ΜΑΖi” transformed public space into a temporary communal living room, where hospitality and co-creation became tools for cultural connection. The action demonstrated how simple, collective gestures like cooking, eating, performing, and celebrating together, can reclaim public space and strengthen social bonds within the city.
