Reclaiming the old Turkish Cypriot Cinema in Larnaca

Part of our work as urban enthusiasts involves voicing our concerns when urban landmarks are at risk. In the Turkish Cypriot mahallae [neighbourhood / quarter] of Larnaca there is the outdoor cinema that has been abandoned for decades. Now it faces destruction at the price of creating a parking lot for the neighbourhood. An iconic building and by all accounts a place of community interaction and memory, the fate of the Cinema deserves closer examination. We are in contact with the relevant authorities with alternative proposals that would rescue the Cinema and protect the urban and cultural heritage of the neighbourhood.
